If you know anything about me, you know I LOVE solo travel. Yes, it’s always fun to travel with my daughter or head out on a girls trip, but going solo truly has my heart. Over the years, I’ve tried just about every solo travel experience in the book. I’ve paid premiums to have my own room, braved the Namibian deserts without knowing anyone in my group, and traveled Istanbul completely alone.
So, when a new solo travel experience gets on my radar, I’m excited to try it! G Adventures is a tried-and-true group travel company, and they’ve recently come out with a new type of travel experience: going solo—sort of. Their new offering, Solo-ish Adventures, is sure to be a hit with seasoned travelers, as well as those stepping outside their comfort zones for the first time. Here’s why I’m so excited to try this new mode of international travel.
The Benefits of Going Solo-ish
I could talk all day about the benefits of traveling alone, and solo-ish trips have all the same benefits and then some! The general wisdom is that solo travel builds confidence, introduces you to new experiences, and allows you to see more of the world without having to coordinate schedules with a travel buddy. I suspect solo-ish travel with G Adventures will have the same appeal, with these additional benefits:
No Odd-Man Out
I love taking group tours as a solo traveler, but one drawback is the lack of a consistent companion. As a solo traveler, it’s easy to feel like the odd man out in these groups. But this new travel style means you don’t start the tour off in pairs. It will be so much easier to mingle with fellow travelers and make new friends as you explore the world!
Female-Led Tours
Here’s a unique feature of G Adventures’ Solo-ish travel—tours are ALWAYS female-led. Solo travelers are often women, and having a female CEO (tour manager) at the helm is another way of creating meaningful communities.
Itineraries That Prioritize Safety
Safety is a top concern for all travelers, but, unfortunately, female solo travelers have to be especially vigilant. G Adventures is really pulling out all the stops to ensure solo travel is as safe as possible. You won’t even have to brave public transport if you don’t wait to—the transfer from the airport to your first hotel is complimentary!
Discounted Single Accommodations
One of the biggest hassles of guided tours as a solo travel is hiked up costs for single rooms. You might get away with just an extra $500, but it isn’t uncommon for single supplements to exceed $1000. But on a Solo-ish Adventure, you can enjoy your very own room at a discount!
All the Same Exciting Destinations
You might be thinking there must be some catch to solo-ish travel. Are trips shorter? Maybe tours only go to boring destinations. Neither is the case! You’ll enjoy all the same fantastic destinations as a standard G Adventures tour. Make plans to traipse around South Africa, marvel at Bali’s natural wonders, and get a taste of European city living in Lisbon—all as a solo traveler!
Fly Solo (If You Want)
The best part of solo travel is getting to be your own best friend. You don’t have to wait for anyone, and you can simply do what you want on your own timeline. G Adventures has accounted for this in their solo-ish mode of travel. In addition to days chock-full of group adventures, travelers also enjoy free days to spend as they wish. This means you’ll still have all the flexibility and “me time” of a typical solo trip.
A Solo Experience in the Comfort of Group Travel
To sum it all up, G Adventures solo-ish travel style offers a solo experience with the comfort of group travel. I, for one, am extremely excited to try this out. I’m ready for a convenient way to see the world without sacrificing the freedom to spend time however I want. So, where do you want to travel solo-ish?
